Case study The Action Group

The Action Group wanted a website that better represented the charity and gave its team more control. We worked together on the design, accessibility, and tools for managing updates in-house.

The brief

Founded in 1976 by parents and carers, The Action Group supports people with learning disabilities and other support needs. Its existing website felt dated, and even small changes had become expensive to arrange.

The charity contacted us through the Wix Marketplace in February 2022. A conversation with project lead Johanna helped us better understand the requirements and the budget.

"I'm so glad that you called me and spoke to me; you are the only person who has picked up the phone."

Johanna, Communications Officer and Project Leader

Reviewing the website

We worked through the existing pages with Johanna, identifying where the content, design and structure needed attention. Accessibility was an important part of the brief because of the people using the services.

The review gave both teams a shared starting point, with the work agreed around the information visitors needed and the way the charity wanted to present itself.

Design and accessibility

A more colourful, welcoming design used relevant images and icons, with content divided into clearer sections. Each page was reviewed with the client during regular project meetings.

The build included the Recite Me toolbar, offering features such as a screen reader. This sat alongside improvements to the page content and structure, rather than replacing the need for those changes.

More control over everyday updates

The vacancies section was redesigned, with a content-management setup that made adding new roles more straightforward. Wix training gave the charity's team the knowledge to maintain the website and make more changes themselves.

That control was central to the project. The site needed to remain useful without requiring a developer for every update.

The client experience

"We are very proud of our new website, and we can see the impact on our general traffic."

Johanna, Communications Officer and Project Leader

The finished website gave the charity a clearer, more welcoming way to present its work, alongside practical tools for the team looking after it.
